Recently, House Speaker Matt Hall claimed STARBASE is a “phantom program” and nothing more than “waste, fraud, and abuse” in the state budget. Now, House Republicans are patting themselves on the back for gutting its funding.
If they spent less time talking in front of cameras and more time listening to the people of Michigan, they’d know that STARBASE isn’t just an existent program — it’s a thriving one. How they see a program that prepares thousands of children for the jobs of tomorrow as “waste” I have no idea. The audacity they have to slash its funding is despicable. Our kids deserve better.
