Many folks throughout our community are being sent a false political attack ad disguised as a “utility bill update.” This mailer was sent by a political action committee funded by the Devos family, other billionaires and corporate interests including utility companies — none of who have an interest in lowering the ridiculous energy rates that we all pay. What they do care about is the same old negative politics we are all tired of. More lies, division, and hatred so they can continue to advance their corporate agenda while we all pay more.

National Guard members have the same day-to-day costs anyone else does, including child care, health care, and student loans. And when someone takes the selfless step to sign up for service, their actions deserve to be honored with our fullest support.
This week, the Governor signed legislation that will help us meet a broader range of their needs by strengthening the support systems service members rely on. My bill, specifically, will help our Guard members pay for child care costs during their required drills and annual trainings.

Yesterday, the House unilaterally voted to slash state funding for programs like Wigs for Kids that support kids battling cancer, RxKids that provides prenatal care to expecting mothers, and others that support survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking victims, and more. And they did this all with no public input or debate.
Speaker Matt Hall even admitted that not everything they cut was “waste,” calling the move a mere “negotiating tactic.” To use vulnerable Michiganders as pawns in some twisted political game is cruel. This is not how government should work.
