"'There are going to be people who walk by or drive by, who see this sign and see the name Vincent Chin, and then will turn to whomever they're in the car with or walking with to ask: 'Who was Vincent Chin?' Chang said. 'And then hopefully that will spur many more moments of learning and understanding.'
"Chang said she's working on legislation to ensure students can learn about diverse communities.
"'I'm hopeful by the time that my kids are in high school, we will make sure that every student in the state of Michigan is learning the history of every community of color in Michigan,' Chang said. 'And so we are working on that in the Michigan Legislature.'
