"You cannot change any society unless you take responsibility for it, unless you see yourself as belonging to it and responsible for changing it." - Grace Lee Boggs
I participated in #NoKings protests in Livonia and Detroit today and am feeling hopeful for our future after seeing the creativity, energy, multigenerational activism, and solidarity on full display today.
Ended the day at "Reimagine Everything: The Grace Lee Boggs 10-Year Memorial Tribute". No better way to end #NoKings than honoring Grace and reflecting on her lessons and legacy for today's crises and movements.✊️❤️ ... See MoreSee Less

Sarah Lightner - State Representative and I co-authored this op-ed in the Detroit News about our Michigan Violent Crime Clearance Improvement Grant Program.
"Across the country, clearance rates for violent crimes have fallen sharply over the past few decades. In the 1960s, police solved roughly 90% of murders. Today, according to crime data analyst Jeff Asher, around 60% of murders are solved nationwide. Nonfatal shootings fare even worse; many departments solve fewer than one in five.
Michigan fares worse than the national average. According to state data, just over half of murders in Michigan were cleared in 2024, and just 38% of non-fatal shootings were solved that year. Clearance rates for other violent crimes are often even lower.
That is why we’re coming together — Republican and Democrat lawmakers — to introduce legislation to create the Michigan Violent Crime Clearance Improvement Grant Program. This bipartisan bill will help local law enforcement agencies across the state get the resources they need to solve more violent crimes. It’s a commonsense investment in justice and safer communities."
