Today, I’m sending a letter to Corewell Hospital to urge them to keep the Labor and Delivery unit open at our Wayne campus. This vital service is so important to our residents - particularly those who cannot travel to other hospitals nearby to give birth.

I was late to my coffee hour this morning in Gibraltar because I was stopped at a blocked train on Fort Street and had to go around. What was worse was that we had an ambulance behind us trying to make its way to the hospital. All the cars maneuvered out of the way to get the ambulance as close as possible with the hopes that the train would move quickly. It didn’t.
So the ambulance literally had to reverse and find an alternative route — which probably added another 20 minutes at least. I’m hoping that the person inside is ok.
This is why I fight so hard on this issue. Alongside Rep. Debbie Dingell, we secured the funding for a bridge on Fort Street, but it is going to take years before it’s built. We have phase one finally underway on Allen Road with the bridge there hopefully starting next year.
In this year’s state budget, we finally secured a long term funding solution to build more of these bridges over the blocked crossings. But the urgency of a fix is always present — particularly in situations like this. ... See MoreSee Less
