They can also apply for and return an absentee ballot at the clerk\u2019s office in the same trip.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Online registration closes 15 days before an election and is no longer available for the Nov. 8 election.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Voters can view a sample ballot, find their local clerk and their polling place, and apply for an absentee ballot at <a href=\"https:\/\/mvic.sos.state.mi.us\/\">Michigan.gov\/Vote<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Voters who already have an absentee ballot are encouraged to return it as soon as possible by hand-delivering it to their clerk\u2019s office or ballot drop box. Locations of drop boxes for individual jurisdictions can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/mvic.sos.state.mi.us\/\">Michigan.gov\/Vote<\/a>. All absentee ballot return envelopes must be signed by the voter for their ballot to be counted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>CHECK CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS WHEN YOU CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>As temperatures get colder and the nights longer, Michigan residents are urged to take action to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning by checking to ensure furnaces and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are properly working while turning back the clocks for the end of daylight-saving time Sunday, Nov 6.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Known as the \u201csilent killer,\u201d CO is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless poisonous gas. Most CO poisonings take place at home and are caused by items that are not properly cared for or vented, such as furnaces, water heaters, generators, gas grills, dryers, lanterns, space heaters, fireplaces, chimneys, and gas stoves.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">To protect yourself and your family from CO, follow these safety tips:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Make sure you have working CO detectors on every level of your home, including the basement.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Change batteries every six months (fall and spring) and replace your detector every five years or according to manufacturer\u2019s instructions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Use a battery-powered detector where you have fuel-burning devices but no electric outlets.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Have your furnace or wood-burning stove inspected annually.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Generators should be run at a safe distance (at least 20 feet) from the home. Never run a generator in the home, garage, or right next to windows or doors.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Never run a car in an enclosed space.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Never run a gasoline or propane heater or a grill (gas or charco<br \/>al) inside your home or in an unventilated garage.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/mdhhs\/safety-injury-prev\/environmental-health\/topics\/mitracking\">Michigan.gov\/MiTracking<\/a> for more information about CO poisoning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b style=\"background-color: transparent;\">\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>NOVEMBER RECOGNIZED AS VETERANS AND MILITARY FAMILIES MONTH\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Nov. 1, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer proclaimed November 2022 as Veterans and Military Families Month to honor veterans and military families throughout the state by recognizing their sacrifices and celebrating their successes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Michigan is committed to making the state the premier choice for military service members, veterans and their families to live, work, serve and play. Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) Director Anita Fox are reminding Michiganders that the annual Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment period began Nov. 1 and runs through Jan. 15, 2023.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">With savings still in effect to make health insurance more affordable for more Michiganders, new grants for free local help, and more plan options than last year, shopping for health insurance has never been easier.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">While shopping for a health plan during Open Enrollment, Michigan consumers can choose from 233 health plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace, which is available at\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/\">HealthCare.gov<\/a>\u202for by calling 800-318-2596. Gretchen Whitmer announced that applications for the Caring for MI Future: Child Care Facilities Improvement Fund are now open. Childcare entrepreneurs who are interested in starting or expanding a childcare facility can apply for a grant to reduce the cost of converting space that meets childcare facility guidelines.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">The $50 million to open and grow new childcare facilities is part of the state\u2019s Caring for MI Future initiative. Caring for MI Future is a $100 million investment to help Michigan families find quality, affordable childcare in their community by opening 1,000 new or expanded childcare programs by the end of 2024.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">The grants, which range in size from $50,000 for home-based childcare and $150,000 for center-based programs, will help providers to complete minor renovations and improvements to meet licensing and quality standards. They can also apply for and return an absentee ballot at the clerk\u2019s office in the same trip.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Online registration closes 15 days before an election and is no longer available for the Nov. 8 election.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Voters can view a sample ballot, find their local clerk and their polling place, and apply for an absentee ballot at <a href=\"https:\/\/mvic.sos.state.mi.us\/\">Michigan.gov\/Vote<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Voters who already have an absentee ballot are encouraged to return it as soon as possible by hand-delivering it to their clerk\u2019s office or ballot drop box. All absentee ballot return envelopes must be signed by the voter for their ballot to be counted.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\"><br \/><\/span><\/p><p><b>CHECK CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS WHEN YOU CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS&nbsp;<\/b><\/p><p>As temperatures get colder and the nights longer, Michigan residents are urged to take action to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning by checking to ensure furnaces and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are properly working while turning back the clocks for the end of daylight-saving time Sunday, Nov 6.&nbsp;<\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Known as the \u201csilent killer,\u201d CO is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless poisonous gas. Most CO poisonings take place at home and are caused by items that are not properly cared for or vented, such as furnaces, water heaters, generators, gas grills, dryers, lanterns, space heaters, fireplaces, chimneys, and gas stoves.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">To protect yourself and your family from CO, follow these safety tips:&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><\/p><p><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Make sure you have working CO detectors on every level of your home, including the basement.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Change batteries every six months (fall and spring) and replace your detector every five years or according to manufacturer\u2019s instructions.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Use a battery-powered detector where you have fuel-burning devices but no electric outlets.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Have your furnace or wood-burning stove inspected annually.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Generators should be run at a safe distance (at least 20 feet) from the home. Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) Director Anita Fox are reminding Michiganders that the annual Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment period began Nov. 1 and runs through Jan. 15, 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">With savings still in effect to make health insurance more affordable for more Michiganders, new grants for free local help, and more plan options than last year, shopping for health insurance has never been easier.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">While shopping for a health plan during Open Enrollment, Michigan consumers can choose from 233 health plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace, which is available at\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/\">HealthCare.gov<\/a>\u202for by calling 800-318-2596. Gretchen Whitmer announced that applications for the Caring for MI Future: Child Care Facilities Improvement Fund are now open. Childcare entrepreneurs who are interested in starting or expanding a childcare facility can apply for a grant to reduce the cost of converting space that meets childcare facility guidelines.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">The $50 million to open and grow new childcare facilities is part of the state\u2019s Caring for MI Future initiative. Caring for MI Future is a $100 million investment to help Michigan families find quality, affordable childcare in their community by opening 1,000 new or expanded childcare programs by the end of 2024.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">The grants, which range in size from $50,000 for home-based childcare and $150,000 for center-based programs, will help providers to complete minor renovations and improvements to meet licensing and quality standards.
