{"id":5082,"date":"2019-05-22T20:38:50","date_gmt":"2019-05-22T20:38:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/senatedems.com\/wojno\/?p=5082"},"modified":"2019-05-22T20:38:50","modified_gmt":"2019-05-22T20:38:50","slug":"any-public-employee-could-distribute-anti-overdose-drugs-under-michigan-bills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.senatedems.com\/wojno\/2019\/05\/22\/any-public-employee-could-distribute-anti-overdose-drugs-under-michigan-bills\/","title":{"rendered":"Any public employee could distribute anti-overdose drugs under Michigan bills"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Librarians, school officials, first responders and other public employees could carry and administer anti-overdose drugs under legislation passed in the Michigan Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taken together, the bills expand access to Narcan for public agencies, allowing authorized agencies to obtain the medication, train employees on how to use it and distribute it in the event of an overdose. The legislation exempts agencies and their employees from civil or criminal liability if they administer Narcan to someone suspected of an overdose in good faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senate Bill 200 sponsor Sen. Paul Wojno, D-Warren, said in a statement the bills will increase access to lifesaving medicine in case of emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs lawmakers, it\u2019s our responsibility to serve the people of Michigan, and my legislation will help save lives and give individuals a second chance at beating their addiction,\u201d Wojno said.<br \/><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlive.com\/news\/2019\/05\/any-public-employee-could-distribute-anti-overdose-drugs-under-michigan-bills.html\">https:\/\/www.mlive.com\/news\/2019\/05\/any-public-employee-could-distribute-anti-overdose-drugs-under-michigan-bills.html<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Librarians, school officials, first responders and other public employees could carry and administer anti-overdose drugs under legislation passed in the Michigan Senate.
