This ensures funds collected under this act will be allocated and disbursed appropriately for marketing programs, promoting agricultural growth in our state. It passed unanimously through the Senate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(qtve14iurmqjozjpzz11yira))\/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&amp;objectname=2023-SB-0669\" data-ogsc=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(qtve14iurmqjozjpzz11yira))\/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&amp;objectname=2023-SB-0669\" data-outlook-id=\"6193ecf6-3a33-471b-8c76-8abdfe9063f9\">Expansion of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)<\/a> \u2014 In honor of Sunshine Week last week, the Senate Oversight Committee, which I chair, voted on legislation to expand the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to include the Michigan Legislature, the governor, and the lieutenant governor. This move marks a significant stride towards enhancing transparency and accountability within our state government.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(5emrh04rmkhofq3n0uf4jpad))\/mileg.aspx?page=getObject&amp;objectName=2024-SB-0702\" data-ogsc=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(5emrh04rmkhofq3n0uf4jpad))\/mileg.aspx?page=getObject&amp;objectName=2024-SB-0702\" data-outlook-id=\"f7b1b07b-7ed3-4479-973d-4fd1bda6e930\">Senate Bill 702<\/a> \u2014 This legislation aligns Michigan graduation hour requirements for licensed estheticians and manicurists with new federal guidelines. Passage of this bill will ensure that cosmetology students in Michigan will be eligible for federal student financial aid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(fxko4gibanjud1c45dxropeh))\/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&amp;objectname=2023-SB-0447\" data-ogsc=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(fxko4gibanjud1c45dxropeh))\/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&amp;objectname=2023-SB-0447\" data-outlook-id=\"270330d3-19af-4aee-94ab-c103e96ffae5\">Senate Bill 447<\/a> \u2014 I testified in front of the Energy and Environment Committee in support of this legislation with Amelia DeLuca, Chief Sustainability Officer at Delta Airlines. This legislation would provide for a refundable tax credit for a business engaged in the use of sustainable aviation fuel. This bill passed the Senate 24 to 13.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(vzre1g4ih5wpj4j2dkabkfwp))\/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&amp;objectname=2023-SB-0567\" data-ogsc=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(vzre1g4ih5wpj4j2dkabkfwp))\/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&amp;objectname=2023-SB-0567\" data-outlook-id=\"78401fe1-4882-41bd-ae6e-a225042e250e\">Senate Bills 567<\/a><span>&#8211;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(mlvdat3scd01jgvlqzdbqzpm))\/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&amp;objectname=2023-SB-0568\" data-ogsc=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(mlvdat3scd01jgvlqzdbqzpm))\/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&amp;objectname=2023-SB-0568\" data-outlook-id=\"f757a02b-d3cd-4276-bf43-4ed8f30d325d\">568<\/a><span> \u2014 Legislation that would ensure early dyslexia screening for Kindergarteners through 3rd graders, better access to screening for 4th through 12th graders, training programs to include dyslexia education, and help equip educators with effective reading instruction methods. These bills passed the Senate 37 to 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(3nq2tiegbkureuiey2umbkii))\/mileg.aspx?objectname=2023-HB-5207&amp;page=getobject&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=govdelivery\" data-ogsc=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(3nq2tiegbkureuiey2umbkii))\/mileg.aspx?objectname=2023-HB-5207&amp;page=getobject&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=govdelivery\" data-outlook-id=\"14d1be77-4cd1-45e7-b499-32153ec87de8\">The Fertility Health Care Act<\/a> \u2014 A nine-bill package that would secure access to fertility care by means of surrogacy and in vitro fertilization. The package would provide requirements for a surrogacy agreement and update the state&#8217;s parentage laws to recognize the rights of the intended parents. This devastating event, claiming 44 innocent lives, remains the deadliest attack on a U.S. school.
