Shink hosted the DNR and Senate District 14 constituents to walk trails at Waterloo Portage Lake Campground and discuss legislative updates in Michigan<br \/><\/i><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><i data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"><br \/><\/i>GRASS LAKE, Mich. (May 29, 2025) \u2014 Yesterday, Sen. <b>Sue Shink<\/b> (D-Northfield Twp.) again welcomed residents to join her alongside officials from the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) for a \u201cWalk and Talk\u201d event. While exploring some of Waterloo\u2019s 20,000 acres, the group discussed the importance of Michigan\u2019s breathtaking natural landscapes, learned about native plants such as mayapple and tulip tree and their importance in the ecosystem, and learned how to safely roll over a log to see the wildlife underneath.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\n<p>\u201cExploring the trails with local residents at Waterloo was an absolute blast. The DNR officers shared some insightful information about our native plant life,\u201d said Sen. <b>Shink<\/b>. \u201cEvents like this allow our community to connect in a unique and meaningful way, and they highlight the importance of the work we\u2019re doing in the Senate to conserve and protect Michigan\u2019s natural spaces for everyone to explore and enjoy for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Accompanied by four representatives from the DNR, including park manager <b>Matt Schweda<\/b> and unit supervisor\u00a0<b>Michelle Lupenski<\/b>, Sen. <b>Shink<\/b> strolled alongside over 25 community members, including three dogs, on the Waterloo Pinckney Trail near Portage Lake Campground in Grass Lake.<\/p>\n<p>As Chair of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Agriculture and Majority Vice Chair of the budget committee devoted to the same areas, Sen. <b>Shink<\/b> has dedicated herself to crafting legislation aimed at safeguarding the environment while fostering economic growth. Sen. <b>Shink<\/b> was instrumental in getting the <span><u><a class=\"x_Hyperlink x_SCXW55872007 x_BCX0 x_OWAAutoLink\" id=\"OWA95515130-f924-2ca8-75ed-cea6a6d3d76f\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/senatedems.com\/blog\/2023\/11\/08\/clean-energy-future\/\" title=\"https:\/\/senatedems.com\/blog\/2023\/11\/08\/clean-energy-future\/\" data-linkindex=\"1\">Clean Energy Future<\/a><\/u><\/span> package signed into law, helping to move Michigan to 100% clean energy by 2040, while creating hundreds of good-paying jobs.
