Community organizations to receive $3 million in grant funding to support and uplift community centers and aid homeless veterans<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span> LANSING, Mich. (March 26, 2024) \u2014 Sen. <\/span>Sue Shink<\/span><\/b> (D-Northfield Twp.) <\/span>is happy to announce the allocation of approximately $3 million in grant funding to several nonprofit organizations across Washtenaw and Jackson counties. These grants aim to improve local community centers and provide crucial support for homeless veterans and their families.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jackson Interfaith Center<\/span><\/a> is set to receive $2 million to help them better address a variety of community needs such as employment placement with transportation assistance, transitional housing, daycare for low-income families and more.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Residents in Action, Inc<\/span><\/a>, a Black-led 501c3 non-profit that is built on the philosophy that people in a community are best suited to define and address the problems they see and works to promote equity through community-led advocacy, was allocated $500,000 to solidify their organizational infrastructure and for capital expenditures.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Peace Neighborhood Center,<\/span><\/a> headquartered on Maple Rd.\u00a0in Ann Arbor, is set to receive $700,000 to help them serve the needs of residents and develop a new 8,000 square foot multi-use HUB Community Resource Center in Ypsilanti Township. Furthermore, the community resource center will partner with local Washtenaw County agencies to provide equitable access to a range of community-based services.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Funding for these grants came in part from the American Rescue Plan Act which provided $60 million in grant funds that was appropriated by the State Legislature. Due to the number of organizations indicating the need for increased support, the Legislature approved an additional $4 million though the Fiscal Year 2024 supplemental budget bill.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, funds have been allocated to organizations dedicated to assisting homeless veterans and their families:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
