(Feb. 9, 2022) \u2014 Sen.&nbsp;<strong>Dayna Polehanki<\/strong>&nbsp;(D-Livonia) has issued the following statement regarding today\u2019s executive budget recommendation for the upcoming fiscal year, which includes significant investments in education, including teacher retention and recruitment:<br \/><br \/>\u201cOne of the pandemic\u2019s hardest hit sectors of our society is our schools, and it is clear from her budget proposal the governor knows this, too. I have and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure our teachers have everything they need to do their jobs safely and effectively, and it helps knowing we have an ally in those efforts in Governor Whitmer. To recruit and maintain quality teachers, we must show them as much by making investments in them.\u201d<br \/><br \/>If passed as written, the governor\u2019s proposed budget would once again mark the biggest state education funding increase in more than 20 years \u2014 without raising taxes \u2014 by providing extra, necessary attention and funding toward increasing per-pupil and special education funding, respectively, as well as a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/coronavirus-pandemic-business-health-education-gretchen-whitmer-56c6709d69cca731feb11a01d3bc5a5f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$2.3 billion investment to aid teacher retention and recruitment<\/a>.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More on the governor\u2019s Fiscal Year 2023 budget proposal can be found&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/budget\/fiscal-pages\/budget\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">###<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LANSING, Mich.
