I fundamentally believe our government is only as effective as the number of people who take an active role in it \u2014 which is why we\u2019ve put this guide together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Over the past year, I\u2019ve fought hard for state and federal COVID-19 relief for the people of our district, including helping many with unemployment and other personal pandemic-related support. As a part of the Governor\u2019s School Recovery Advisory Committee, I\u2019ve proudly advocated for the safe reopening of schools, so our teachers and staff have the support they need so every student has an opportunity to succeed. I\u2019ve also stood strong against corporate polluters by championing increased fines for landfills that are found to be in violation of the solid waste code.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Now I want to hear from you. The Senate kept a per-pupil minimum foundation allowance of $8,700 passed by the House, making it the largest investment in K-12 public schools in our state\u2019s history. As a result, the gap between the lowest- and highest-funded school districts is closed for the first time since the goal was introduced in 1994.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I was pleased to end the \u2018two-tier system\u2019 of school funding created by Proposal A, which created a funding gap between the state\u2019s wealthiest and poorest districts, and I was proud to support expanding preschool opportunities for eligible four-year-old children through the Great Start Readiness Program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This legislation finally placed the much-needed emphasis on funding education the way it always should have been. I look forward to continuing to expand upon the effort to ensure this change lasts for generations to come.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider _builder_version=&#8221;4.24.3&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_divider][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.24.3&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3><b>The State of our Budget<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As of the printing of this publication, the legislature is continuing to work on the state budget. While the Senate, House, and Governor\u2019s proposed budgets may look different, one thing is clear: We cannot afford to do nothing, and people like you across our district said they agree.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When I started in the Senate, residents asked me to address our toughest challenges. The Senate kept a per-pupil minimum foundation allowance of $8,700 passed by the House, making it the largest investment in K-12 public schools in our state\u2019s history. As a result, the gap between the lowest- and highest-funded school districts is closed for the first time since the goal was introduced in 1994.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/div><\/div>\n<!-- \/wp:media-text -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>I was pleased to end the \u2018two-tier system\u2019 of school funding created by Proposal A, which created a funding gap between the state\u2019s wealthiest and poorest districts, and I was proud to support expanding preschool opportunities for eligible four-year-old children through the Great Start Readiness Program.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>This legislation finally placed the much-needed emphasis on funding education the way it always should have been. I look forward to continuing to expand upon the effort to ensure this change lasts for generations to come.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:separator -->\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<!-- \/wp:separator -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} -->\n<h3>The State of our Budget<\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>As of the printing of this publication, the legislature is continuing to work on the state budget. While the Senate, House, and Governor\u2019s proposed budgets may look different, one thing is clear: We cannot afford to do nothing, and people like you across our district said they agree.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>When I started in the Senate, residents asked me to address our toughest challenges.
