My Bump Stock Ban bill (SB 224) and Capitol Weapons Ban bill (SB 225) passed the senate yesterday. Now, on to the House!

Note: Three Republicans voted “yes” on my Bump Stock bill. Otherwise, votes fell along party lines. Party line votes currently go to Democrats as we have one more member than Republicans.

Green = yes and Red = no. Blue = absent.

"I have close family members who were inside CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne during the attempted massacre of its parishioners Sunday morning.

My family is forever grateful to the vigilant parishioner who subdued the shooter with his truck as well as the member of the church’s parishioner-led security team that took out the shooter, ending the threat. My family lives because of your actions. You are heroes.

While I have sympathy for anyone in the midst of a mental health crisis, according to reports, this troubled young shooter, who believed he “heard from God” and “was a prophet,” was able to accumulate an arsenal of guns and ammunition in the home he lived in with his mother.

I wish that more people knew about Michigan’s Red Flag law of 2024, which temporarily restricts access to firearms for individuals, like the CrossPointe shooter, who are deemed to be a danger to themselves or others."

GOOD NEWS! My animal fundraising license plate bill passed the senate today 24-12. Now, on to the House!

"Thank you, Mr. President.

Senate Bill 106 would create a specialty fundraising license plate in collaboration with the Secretary of State and the Michigan Pet Alliance.

Revenue from the sale of this license plate would fund two critical purposes: free or low cost spay and neuter services for low income pet owners and unowned community cats, and training and education programs for employees and volunteers working in Michigan's animal shelters and rescue organizations.

700 letters of support from animal lovers across Michigan were recorded with the committee clerk.

So, this bill is not only popular, but it's for a good cause. I hope we can all vote yes today on Senate Bill 106,

Thank you, Mr. President. I ask that my remarks be printed in the Journal."
