{"id":5861,"date":"2021-09-22T13:35:47","date_gmt":"2021-09-22T17:35:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/senatedems.com\/mccann\/?p=5861"},"modified":"2021-09-22T13:35:47","modified_gmt":"2021-09-22T17:35:47","slug":"state-budget-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.senatedems.com\/mccann\/2021\/09\/22\/state-budget-update\/","title":{"rendered":"State Budget Update"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/action.meicigama.com\/actionctrl\/click\/614b46dfd768d26d518b4da5\/600b4364d768d24a2c8b4567?url=https:\/\/www.senatedems.com\/mccann\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static21.senatedems.org\/media\/700x0\/5d274798bcda1.jpeg\" alt=\"State Senator Sean McCann\" width=\"849\" height=\"279\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><strong>September 22, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear Friend,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, my colleagues and I in the Michigan Senate came together in bipartisan fashion to pass bills enacting a state budget for Fiscal Year 2022-23 \u2014 set to begin on Oct. 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Totaling just under $70 billion \u2014 $26.8 billion in state funds coupled with federal funding \u2014 our budget agreement provides exciting possibilities to renew and rebuild Michigan in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Putting Michigan citizens first, it fully funds numerous initiatives to help workers get the skills they need to earn well-paying jobs, increases the number of families eligible for quality and affordable childcare, will fix roads, bridges and dams across Michigan, and much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m also proud to highlight some Kalamazoo County-specific priorities I was able to help secure funding for in this budget, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$3 million toward construction of a U.S. 131 interchange expansion on the north side of Kalamazoo County, which would allow critical two-way transportation routes for local businesses and relieve wear and tear on nearby local roads.&nbsp;<\/li><li>$1.5 million to support the City of Portage in construction of the new Portage Senior Center, which will serve seniors throughout Kalamazoo County.<\/li><li>$1 million to support expansion of additional treatment capacity for children with autism who engage in behaviors so disruptive and dangerous that they require alternative housing.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With significant federal COVID relief money still unspent even after the passage of this annual budget, I will continue to advocate to my colleagues in the legislature to put those funds to use on the many great needs still facing the state and our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am thankful to have heard important input from many of you throughout this year\u2019s budget process, please continue to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/action.meicigama.com\/actionctrl\/click\/614b46dfd768d26d518b4da5\/600b4364d768d24a2c8b4567?url=https:\/\/senatedems.com\/mccann\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stay in touch with me<\/a>&nbsp;with your priorities for the great state of Michigan going forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sincerely,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static21.senatedems.org\/media\/700x0\/611fd418a49ed.jpeg\" alt=\"example image 800x100\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sean McCann<\/strong><br \/>State Senator<br \/>20th District<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September 22, 2021 Dear Friend, This week, my colleagues and I in the Michigan Senate came together in bipartisan fashion to pass bills enacting a state budget for Fiscal Year [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[15],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5861","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-email"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v26.4 (Yoast SEO v26.9) -
