{"id":5344,"date":"2020-06-05T14:07:46","date_gmt":"2020-06-05T14:07:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/senatedems.com\/irwin\/?p=5344"},"modified":"2020-06-05T14:07:46","modified_gmt":"2020-06-05T14:07:46","slug":"irwin-introduces-bill-to-protect-stimulus-payments-take-on-debt-collectors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.senatedems.com\/irwin\/2020\/06\/05\/irwin-introduces-bill-to-protect-stimulus-payments-take-on-debt-collectors\/","title":{"rendered":"Irwin introduces bill to protect stimulus payments, take on debt collectors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>LANSING, Mich. \u2014 Sen.<strong>&nbsp;Jeff Irwin<\/strong>&nbsp;(D-Ann Arbor) has introduced Senate Bill 962 that would prevent creditors from garnishing stimulus payments made under the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act, or from any future COVID-19 related stimulus payments.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This legislation would not apply to garnishments related to child support or delinquent taxes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe goal of the CARES act was to provide income for struggling people across our country, not give more money to big banks and debt collectors,\u201d Sen.
