Increasingly, microplastics are showing up in alarming places — from every fish tested in the Great Lakes to even human brain tissue. Even worse, science has yet to understand the full damage of this widespread pollution.

Ecology Center thanks State Senators Senator Sue Shink, State Senator Jeff Irwin, and Senator Dayna Polehanki for introducing a new three-bill package that would take a critical step toward protecting Michigan from the threat of microplastics to Michigan's water, aquatic life, and human health if enacted. Food banks and food rescue organizations are hurting. Here in the 15th district, Food Gatherers is the essential partner to community pantries and people in need of healthy food.

Nobody should go hungry in our country; but, due to federal cuts and rising prices, food security has never been more precarious.

While federal cuts to food stamps/SNAP are planned for 2027 and 2028, food banks are already feeling the pinch. Food Gatherers reports that they're seeing:

20% less food from USDA

Meat and dairy are especially difficult as inflation is hitting poor people and organizations like Food Gatherers who help those in need.

If you can help one of the best food rescue organizations in the world and a pillar of our local safety net, please do: www.foodgatherers.org/
