The Senate bills are\u00a0sponsored respectively by Sen.\u00a0<b>Sarah<\/b>\u00a0<b>Anthony<\/b>\u00a0(D-Lansing), Sen.\u00a0<b>Erika Geiss\u00a0<\/b>(D-Taylor)\u00a0and Sen.\u00a0<b>Mary Cavanagh<\/b>\u00a0(D-Redford Twp.).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>The Reproductive Health Act includes repealing medically unnecessary regulations that\u00a0are\u00a0only imposed upon abortion care and facilities, such as stringent building requirements that have nothing to do with actual patient care.\u00a0The bills also remove reporting requirements and administrative burdens that are not placed on any other healthcare providers.\u00a0These restrictions, which were intentionally woven throughout Michigan\u2019s laws\u00a0in the past, have made the process of affirming everyone\u2019s\u00a0right to reproductive freedom challenging.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u201cSince the Supreme Court\u2019s overturning of<i>\u00a0Roe v. Wade<\/i>, it is incumbent upon us at the state level to ensure all Michiganders, especially those in marginalized and underserved communities,\u00a0have access to reproductive healthcare,\u201d said Sen.\u00a0<b>Anthony<\/b>. \u201cBy finalizing the Reproductive Health Act\u00a0today, we are placing the power of personal choice\u00a0back\u00a0into the hands of the people\u00a0<\/span><span>\u2014<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>protecting current and future generations\u2019\u00a0reproductive freedom.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned\u00a0<i>Roe v. Wade<\/i>, nearly 2.5\u00a0million Michigan voters showed overwhelming support for Proposal 3 in November 2022 \u2014 making it abundantly clear how Michiganders felt about reproductive freedom. The Reproductive Health Act better aligns Michigan\u2019s laws with the new reproductive health protections in Michigan\u2019s constitution and the repeal of the 1931 abortion ban passed by Senate Democrats earlier this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u201cMichiganders deserve the autonomy,\u00a0power and freedom to make their own medical decisions without needless interference\u00a0from those without experience or expertise on the matter,\u201d said Sen.\u00a0<b>Geiss<\/b>. \u201cWith the finalization of the Reproductive Health Act, we are making real progress to ensure that people who can become pregnant do not have their rights infringed upon and instead have the freedom to reliably\u00a0access\u00a0the reproductive healthcare they rightfully deserve.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span>The Reproductive Health Act is a comprehensive package of bills that have received support from various stakeholders, medical experts\u00a0and reproductive health advocates. Previous\u00a0iterations of Reproductive Health Act bills were introduced in earlier sessions, and the bills finalized\u00a0today incorporated feedback from\u00a0constituents and the<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>diverse\u00a0perspectives they hold.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u201cEvery Michigander should have access to the resources required to make informed decisions about their health,\u201d said Sen.\u00a0<b>Cavanagh<\/b>. \u201cThe Reproductive Health Act allows and encourages colleges and universities\u00a0to share accurate\u00a0information about reproductive healthcare.
