LANSING, Mich. (Oct. 10, 2024) — Sen. Mary Cavanagh (D-Redford Twp.) has issued the following statement in response to the lead Action Level exceedance discovered in the City of Livonia:
“I have been in communication with the Michigan Dept. of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) regarding the lead Action Level exceedance found during periodic testing of tap water in the City of Livonia,” said Sen. Cavanagh.
“In accordance with the Safe Drinking Water Act, the City of Livonia recently collected water samples from 31 of the 67 homes with known lead service lines. Of the homes tested, four sites exceeded the Action Level for lead, triggering a public awareness and education campaign, which includes ongoing sampling every six months and service line replacement.
“I am continuing to work with both EGLE and the City of Livonia to ensure residents are equipped with the most up-to-date, accurate information and can take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of their drinking water.”
