(Dec. 8, 2025) \u2014 Today, Michigan State House Speaker Matt Hall and the Republican-led House filed yet another appeal in<span>\u00a0<\/span><i>Michigan Senate v. Michigan House of Representatives<\/i>, the lawsuit brought forth by Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids)<span>\u00a0<\/span><span><u><a id=\"OWAa47fcbf9-9efe-1d3d-c582-2f1e014f69c2\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" title=\"https:\/\/senatedems.com\/brinks\/2025\/02\/03\/lawsuit\/\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/senatedems.com\/brinks\/2025\/02\/03\/lawsuit\/\" data-linkindex=\"0\">after Hall deliberately withheld nine bills<\/a>\u00a0<\/u><\/span>that passed both chambers. Sen. Brinks issued the following reaction to the appeal:<\/p>\n<p>House Republicans are ending the year the same way they started it, by doubling down on violating the Constitution. This time, however, there are already two courts that have sided with the Senate, determining that keeping passed bills from the governor\u2019s desk is illegal. Pushing this failed legal argument AGAIN is a waste of the court\u2019s time and a distraction from the important work at hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThink about what we could get done if House Republicans could focus on the real issues. Michiganders are feeling the squeeze of high prices, they\u2019re concerned about access to health care, and they\u2019re stressed about the impact of federal instability on the economy and our communities. That\u2019s where our focus needs to be. But instead, Lansing Republicans are hell-bent on stopping bills that would help firefighters and teachers afford their health insurance and improve retirement benefits for overworked corrections officers.
