We are very proud to be delivering meaningful relief to folks\u00a0in our first weeks in the new majority.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\">A key component of the bill will expand the Working Families Tax Credit to 30% of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit. 700,000 Michiganders\u2014those who have the hardest time affording the basics\u2014will see an average of $3,150 dollars back in their pockets starting this year. This element of the bill was spearheaded by Sen. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\">Kristin McDonald Rivet\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\">(D-Bay City), who earlier this year\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/senatedems.com\/mcdonaldrivet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2023\/01\/EITC-Coalition-Letter-to-Legislature.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-loopstyle=\"link\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"1\"><span lang=\"en-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span data-ccp-charstyle=\"Hyperlink\">announced a coalition of 230 business groups, economic development organizations, health care and hospitality entities, faith organizations and more<\/span><\/span><\/a><span lang=\"en-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0urging action on this important policy.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cToday the Michigan Senate passed the Working Families Tax Credit to provide financial relief to over 700,000 Michigan families and almost a million children,\u201d said Sen. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\">McDonald Rivet<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\">. \u201cThese dollars represent one of the largest tax breaks in Michigan&#8217;s history, and I am proud to have introduced it in the Senate.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\">Democrats have called for ending the unfair and unpopular tax on retirees since it was put in place more than a decade ago by the previous administration. Lowering MI Costs\u00a0phases out\u00a0the retirement tax over four years and ultimately puts an average of $1,000 back in the pockets of 500,000 households.
