{"id":5135,"date":"2019-06-20T19:21:16","date_gmt":"2019-06-20T19:21:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/senatedems.com\/brinks\/?p=5135"},"modified":"2019-06-20T19:21:16","modified_gmt":"2019-06-20T19:21:16","slug":"brinks-moves-to-protect-womens-health-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.senatedems.com\/brinks\/2019\/06\/20\/brinks-moves-to-protect-womens-health-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Brinks moves to protect women\u2019s health care"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Legislation would guarantee access to affordable contraceptives and family planning<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LANSING \u2014 State Sen. <strong>Winnie Brinks<\/strong> (D-Grand Rapids) today introduced a bill to protect women\u2019s access to affordable contraception in Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senate Bill 388 would require health insurance policies to cover the full cost of all FDA-approved contraceptive drugs, patient education and counseling on its use, and follow-up medical services, even in the event of changes to health care at the federal level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWomen and their doctors should have the ability to make informed reproductive decisions, regardless of household income or changes to federal law,\u201d said Sen. Brinks.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Federal law currently requires health plans to cover contraceptive costs and the related health services included in Senate Bill 388. However, the recent wave of proposals to limit women\u2019s health care has created concern about protecting family and pregnancy planning resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis bill provides people with the added peace of mind that they will be able to plan for their families and futures responsibly and choose what\u2019s right for their individual situations,\u201d said Sen. Brinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grandfathered and religious employer health plans would be exempt from the requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The legislation is a reintroduction of<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/legislature.mi.gov\/doc.aspx?2017-SB-0458\" target=\"_blank\"> Senate Bill 458 of 2017<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>###<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Legislation would guarantee access to affordable contraceptives and family planning LANSING \u2014 State Sen.
