It is unacceptable to allow people to go hungry.
Today I joined Rep. Hillary Scholten in raising the alarm about the Trump administration's decision to cut SNAP benefits starting November 1 due to the federal government shutdown. Despite a $5 billion SNAP reserve fund for emergencies, federal leaders will instead cut off life-saving benefits for children, veterans, elders, and hardworking families starting in November -- just a few short days from now. To refuse to end the shutdown, to refuse to spend contingency funds, and to refuse to keep families from going without food, is simply unacceptable.
We must come together as a community on behalf of those who will impacted by this. If you're able, consider a cash donation to your local food bank or food assistance organization -- like @communityfoodclubgr which hosted us today, @theotherwaygr and @northkentconnect who brought stories of everyday Michiganders who will feel these dire impacts, or any food bank close to your home.
And please consider contacting your federal legislators to urge them to consider the gravity of this choice. ... See MoreSee Less
