LANSING — State Sen. Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) issued the following statement on Attorney General Dana Nessel’s announcement of a tentative agreement between the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Plainfield and Algoma Townships, and Wolverine Worldwide to address PFAS contamination in northern Kent County:
“Every Michigander should be able to trust the water coming from their tap. No agreement can ever undo the impact of PFAS already felt by families and communities in West Michigan and across our state. However, the framework of this tentative agreement is a step in the right direction for those who have felt unheard for too long.
“This settlement sends a clear message to big corporate polluters: those that pollute will be held accountable for their actions, because it is our collective duty to safeguard our water and communities.”
