Whitmer highlighted key legislative priorities for the fall session including public safety, healthcare, the climate and more. Michigan Senate Democrats are eager to come together and pass legislation that addresses the diverse needs of Michigan residents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cOur Majority for the People has already made enormous strides, and we are excited to keep that same energy and focus heading into the fall,\u201d said Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks. \u201cWe are looking forward to another productive, people-focused legislative season fueled by the support of folks across the state.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Read more about \u201cWhat\u2019s Next\u201d from the Michigan Senate here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n September is National Recovery Month\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n National Recovery Month<\/a> (Recovery Month), celebrated throughout September, is a time to honor the resilience and strength of individuals who have embarked on the journey of recovery from addiction or mental health challenges. It is a month dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma and promoting understanding of the recovery process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Since 1989, Recovery Month has served as a reminder that recovery is possible and a reality for many across the state and nation. It encourages communities to unite, support one another and celebrate the transformative power of recovery.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration<\/a> (SAMHSA) sees Recovery Month as an opportunity to inspire hope and reinforce the message that recovery is a lifelong journey worth pursuing. Through education, advocacy and events, SAMHSA works to raise public awareness regarding mental health and addiction recovery.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Throughout September, SAMHSA is hosting several events to commemorate National Recovery Month. A list of events, times, locations and registration information can be found here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n SAMHSA also offers additional resources, including:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Women\u2019s Equality Day\u00a0\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n For more information about Women\u2019s Equality Day and its historical significance, click here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Community Resources\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n Mini-Grants Available to Address PFAS Testing Efforts\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n The Great Lakes PFAS Action Network is providing mini grants to impacted communities to directly fuel local, grassroots efforts to organize and test for PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), as well as promote educational information about the pollutant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Organizations, community groups and individuals are eligible to apply for the mini-grants program. Project proposals should fit under one or more of the three funding areas: PFAS Education and Awareness Raising, PFAS Research and Testing, or Community Organizing. These coaching sessions can be accessed through the UIA website.
