(<\/span>July<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>1<\/span>2, 2023)\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u2014<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Today,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Sen<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>Rosemary<\/span>\u00a0Bayer<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(D-West\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Bloomfield)<\/span><\/span>\u00a0issued<\/span>\u00a0the following statement after Gov<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Gretchen Whitmer<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0signed an executive order\u00a0<\/span><\/span>establishing<\/span>\u00a0the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>Advancement, and Potential, or\u00a0<\/span><\/span>MiLEAP<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u202f<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201c<\/span>Since I first came to Lansing, I have been dedicated to investing and improving education in Michigan beyond K-12<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0said\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>Sen<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Bayer<\/strong><\/span><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>As Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Appropriations for the Michigan Department of Education, I have had the opportunity to work further in this field this year. During that\u00a0<\/span><\/span>time,<\/span>\u00a0I have seen the need to expand our view of education beyond something that starts with kindergarten and ends with high school. I look forward to working with Gov<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Whitmer<\/strong> and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>MiLEAP<\/span>\u00a0to better expand education access in Michigan.\u201d<\/span>\u202f<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Whitmer<\/span><\/span>. \u201cFor too long, we have thought of education as K-12, but we know\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0not good enough.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>I\u2019m<\/span>\u00a0establishing\u00a0<\/span><\/span>MiLEAP<\/span>\u00a0today because we need to get every kid started early, in pre-K, so they succeed in kindergarten, have paths after graduation to get higher education tuition-free, and forge strong partnerships with our employers so they can get a good-paying, high-skill, and in-demand job.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>MiLEAP<\/span>\u00a0will help our learning ecosystem take the jump to the next level as we grow our economy and build a brighter future for Michigan.\u201d<\/span>\u202f<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

MiLEAP<\/span>\u00a0will align all available resources, data, and funds around a single vision<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2014<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>building an education system from early learning through postsecondary to help anyone \u2018make it\u2019 in Michigan.\u202f<\/span>\u202f<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
