The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that, so far this season, there have been at least 8.7 million illnesses, 78,000 hospitalizations, and 4,500 deaths from flu. Its latest report indicated that a total of 14 pediatric flu deaths have also been reported.<\/p>\n<p>In Michigan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/flu\/-\/media\/Project\/Websites\/mdhhs\/Folder1\/Folder43\/MIFluFocus_1_5_06.pdf\">flu activity<\/a> is steadily increasing in Michigan and positive flu cases have been reported in the central, southwestern and southeastern regions across the state.<\/p>\n<p>The early surge of flu activity is occurring along with significant activity of another respiratory virus, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). While there is no current vaccine specifically for RSV, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaccines.gov\/\">flu and COVID-19 vaccines<\/a> can help protect against respiratory illnesses and they can be given at the same visit.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC recommends annual influenza vaccination for all people ages 6 months and older with rare exceptions. For those younger than age 65, the CDC does not recommend any flu vaccine over another so options for this age group include the inactivated, recombinant, or the live-attenuated flu vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is reminding Michigander<br \/>s that flu shots are an essential health benefit under the Affordable Care Act and are covered with no out-of-pocket costs by most health plans in Michigan.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\"><b>MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE AND FINANCIAL SERVICES HOSTS HEALTH INSURANCE TOWN HALL SERIES<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) Director Anita Fox has announced a new series of virtual health insurance town halls to help inform Michiganders about new health plan options, newly extended savings, and increased opportunities for free local enrollment help during the current Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment period.<\/p>\n<p><b>Michiganders have until Jan. 15, 2023<\/b>, to purchase affordable, high quality health insurance for 2023, and newly extended subsidies will help many Michiganders find a plan for as little as $10 per month.<\/p>\n<p>The town hall series expects to give consumers the information they need to sign up for a plan and what to look for when shopping on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/\">HealthCare.gov<\/a>. style=\"background-color: transparent\"><b>MICHIGAN RECOGNIZEWS NATIONAL INFLUENZA VACCINATION WEEK<\/b><\/span><\/p><p><\/p><p>This week is National Influenza Vaccination Week \u2014 a great time to remind folks that it\u2019s never too late to get your flu vaccine. <\/p><p>Already, we are seeing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/weekly\/index.htm\">early season elevated flu activity<\/a> nationally, with 35 states reporting high or very high activity. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that, so far this season, there have been at least 8.7 million illnesses, 78,000 hospitalizations, and 4,500 deaths from flu. Its latest report indicated that a total of 14 pediatric flu deaths have also been reported. <\/p><p>In Michigan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/flu\/-\/media\/Project\/Websites\/mdhhs\/Folder1\/Folder43\/MIFluFocus_1_5_06.pdf\">flu activity<\/a> is steadily increasing in Michigan and positive flu cases have been reported in the central, southwestern and southeastern regions across the state. <\/p><p>The early surge of flu activity is occurring along with significant activity of another respiratory virus, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). While there is no current vaccine specifically for RSV, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaccines.gov\/\">flu and COVID-19 vaccines<\/a> can help protect against respiratory illnesses and they can be given at the same visit. <\/p><p>The CDC recommends annual influenza vaccination for all people ages 6 months and older with rare exceptions. For those younger than age 65, the CDC does not recommend any flu vaccine over another so options for this age group include the inactivated, recombinant, or the live-attenuated flu vaccines. <\/p><p>Finally, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is reminding Michigander\ns that flu shots are an essential health benefit under the Affordable Care Act and are covered with no out-of-pocket costs by most health plans in Michigan.<\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\"><br><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\"><b>MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE AND FINANCIAL SERVICES HOSTS HEALTH INSURANCE TOWN HALL SERIES<\/b><\/span><\/p><p>Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) Director Anita Fox has announced a new series of virtual health insurance town halls to help inform Michiganders about new health plan options, newly extended savings, and increased opportunities for free local enrollment help during the current Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment period.  <\/p><p><b>Michiganders have until Jan. 15, 2023<\/b>, to purchase affordable, high quality health insurance for 2023, and newly extended subsidies will help many Michiganders find a plan for as little as $10 per month. <\/p><p>The town hall series expects to give consumers the information they need to sign up for a plan and what to look for when shopping on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/\">HealthCare.gov<\/a>.
