Life insurance may also be a key component of a family\u2019s strategy for long-term financial or retirement planning, paying for college, and building generational wealth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurist.com\/studies-surveys\/life-insurance-consumer-and-industry-statistics\/\">Recent studies show that approximately 65% of Americans do not buy life insurance<\/a> simply because they don\u2019t understand how to buy a policy and are unsure what type of coverage they need. To help make this process easier, DIFS helps Michiganders with life insurance or annuity concerns by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing publications, tips, locators, and other information about shopping for life insurance or annuities in Michigan on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/difs\/consumers\/Insurance\/life\">DIFS Life and Annuities website<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Reviewing and acting on consumer complaints against insurance companies, agencies, and agents. Consumers are encouraged to first attempt to resolve disputes directly with their insurance company or agent but, if a resolution cannot be reached, DIFS can help try to resolve your dispute. Complaints can be filed online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/difs\/consumers\/complaint\">Michigan.gov\/DIFScomplaints<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Operating the DIFS Call Center, which provides Michiganders the chance to speak with a live specialist Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling 877-999-6442. DIFS can also be reached via email at <a href=\"mailto:DIFSInfo@michigan.gov\">DIFSInfo@michigan.gov<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to providing direct information and assistance to consumers, DIFS administers the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/difs\/consumers\/insurance\/life\/life-insurance-and-annuity-search-service-lias\">Life Insurance and Annuity Search Service (LIAS)<\/a> to help those who cannot find information about their deceased loved one&#8217;s life insurance policies or annuity contracts. So far this year, the LIAS program has assisted 86 consumers recover more than $3 million.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on LIAS, call 877-999-6442 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/difs\/consumers\/insurance\/life\/life-insurance-and-annuity-search-service-lias\">Michigan.gov\/LIAS<\/a> or email <a href=\"mailto:DIFS-LIAS@michigan.gov\">DIFS-LIAS@michigan.gov<\/a>. A national resource is also available from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners at <a href=\"https:\/\/eapps.naic.org\/life-policy-locator\/#\/welcome\">EApps.NAIC.org\/Life-Policy-Locator<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\"><b>KIDS\u2019 CLEAN WATER CALENDAR CONTEST<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For the past 17 years, the Water Resources Commissioner (WRC) has held an annual calendar contest open to fourth and fifth grade students within Oakland County. Individuals 12 years and older are eligible for the new booster two months following the completion of their COVID-19 vaccine primary series or booster.<\/p>\n<p>The updated COVID-19 vaccine boosters include components of the original virus strain and the Omicron variant. This is called a bivalent COVID-19 vaccine. The updated COVID-19 vaccine boosters are designed to give you broad protection against COVID-19, including better protection against the Omicron variant.<\/p>\n<p>Appointments are recommended and walk-ins accepted at:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Health Division&#8217;s Pontiac office, 1200 N. Gretchen Whitmer signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/MIEOG\/2022\/09\/07\/file_attachments\/2264451\/EO%202022-10%20-%20Statewide%20Housing%20Partnership%20%28220907.pdf\">executive order establishing the Statewide Housing Partnership within the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA)<\/a>. Housing that meets peoples\u2019 needs is critical to attract new businesses and support existing employers, and it is the foundation of better educational, economic, and social outcomes. Michigan faces a 160,000-unit attainable housing shortage, leading to higher prices for all and housing instability for low-income Michiganders.<\/p>\n<p>The pandemic has also complicated matters. Before it started, 48% of renters and 18% of homeowners paid too much for housing (more than 30% of their income) \u2014 and that ratio only worsened after the pandemic. In addition, Michigan\u2019s housing stock is aging \u2014 47% of all housing units in the state were built before 1970.<\/p>\n<p>In response to this growing issue, the Statewide Housing Partnership group will include leaders from state, local, and tribal governments; advocates from nonprofit and community organizations; and representatives from the business advocacy world and finance industry. They will develop a strategy to implement Michigan\u2019s Statewide Housing Plan and ensure that every Michigander has access to affordable housing that meets their needs.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the Michigan Strategic Fund has approved $83.8 million in grant funding across 22 statewide affordable housing and community development projects through the Revitalization and Placemaking Program.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\"><b>GOVERNOR SIGNS EXECUTIVE DIRECTIVE TO CREATE JOBS, STRENGTHEN ECONOMY<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Sept. 7, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/MIEOG\/2022\/09\/07\/file_attachments\/2263901\/ED%202022-10%20Creating%20Jobs%20%28220905%29%20%28signed%29.pdf\">executive directive to create jobs in Michigan by taking advantage of the resources in the newly passed Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This directive will ensure state departments and agencies harness every available tax credit and other opportunities in the IRA to build on Michigan\u2019s manufacturing strengths, advance its energy and mobility leadership, and empower workers to succeed.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last three years, Michigan has received multiple awards for its manufacturing capabilities and was recently named the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/policy\/us-energy-employment-jobs-report-useer\">#1 state in the nation for energy sector job growth<\/a>. Gretchen Whitmer signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/MIEOG\/2022\/09\/07\/file_attachments\/2264451\/EO%202022-10%20-%20Statewide%20Housing%20Partnership%20%28220907.pdf\">executive order establishing the Statewide Housing Partnership within the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA)<\/a>. Housing that meets peoples\u2019 needs is critical to attract new businesses and support existing employers, and it is the foundation of better educational, economic, and social outcomes. Michigan faces a 160,000-unit attainable housing shortage, leading to higher prices for all and housing instability for low-income Michiganders. <\/p><p>The pandemic has also complicated matters. Before it started, 48% of renters and 18% of homeowners paid too much for housing (more than 30% of their income) \u2014 and that ratio only worsened after the pandemic. In addition, Michigan\u2019s housing stock is aging \u2014 47% of all housing units in the state were built before 1970. <\/p><p>In response to this growing issue, the Statewide Housing Partnership group will include leaders from state, local, and tribal governments; advocates from nonprofit and community organizations; and representatives from the business advocacy world and finance industry. They will develop a strategy to implement Michigan\u2019s Statewide Housing Plan and ensure that every Michigander has access to affordable housing that meets their needs. <\/p><p>Additionally, the Michigan Strategic Fund has approved $83.8 million in grant funding across 22 statewide affordable housing and community development projects through the Revitalization and Placemaking Program.<\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\"><br \/><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent\"><b>GOVERNOR SIGNS EXECUTIVE DIRECTIVE TO CREATE JOBS, STRENGTHEN ECONOMY<\/b><\/span><\/p><p>On Wednesday, Sept. 7, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/MIEOG\/2022\/09\/07\/file_attachments\/2263901\/ED%202022-10%20Creating%20Jobs%20%28220905%29%20%28signed%29.pdf\">executive directive to create jobs in Michigan by taking advantage of the resources in the newly passed Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)<\/a>.  <\/p><p>This directive will ensure state departments and agencies harness every available tax credit and other opportunities in the IRA to build on Michigan\u2019s manufacturing strengths, advance its energy and mobility leadership, and empower workers to succeed.   <\/p><p>Over the last three years, Michigan has received multiple awards for its manufacturing capabilities and was recently named the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/policy\/us-energy-employment-jobs-report-useer\">#1 state in the nation for energy sector job growth<\/a>. The IRA will build upon this momentum, helping Michigan build and retool factories to manufacture electric vehicles, batteries, solar panels, and much more. <\/p><p>The executive directive will deploy every available resource from the IRA to create good-paying jobs for Michiganders and make Michigan competitive for investment over other
